Peeta : 3D Graffiti

Commissioned mural work by Italian graffiti artist Peeta.  His interest in shadow-play is what allows these drawings to really pop off the wall.

I'm interested in these works for their formal composition in their seemingly 3 dimensional space.  If only architects were as talented at arranging shapes in space...

It's really amazing to see the painting develop in front of your eyes. It's hard to imagine that what you are seeing is spray paint on a wall. I think the idea of arranging shapes in space in architecture is quite complex. Architects don't have the luxury of painting over a mistake and the pressure from clients (budget, time etc..), I believe, forces the designer to 'play it safe'.

This is very cool. Reminiscent of some of your work Stephen. I think Conrad is right in that arraging shapes in architecture is quite complex and that real world forces create limitations in composition, but what I really want to bring up is 'improvisation.' I found myself thinking, "Is the design premeditated or is it perhaps improvised in whole or part?" The idea of improvisation like in music can be applied to design in this application, but it becomes more difficult (not impossible though) in architecture. How can you use improvisation in design effectively? Not all improvisation in music is good.
